State Farm Partners with Openbay for Automotive Service and Repair
State Farm Mutual Automobile Insurance Co. has partnered with Openbay Corp., an online marketplace for auto maintenance and repair, companies said.
Consumers who connect to the Openbay website through Openbay.com/StateFarm will receive discounts on their first two auto maintenance or repair jobs purchased through Openbay.
This is how it works.
Vehicle owners select or describe a service they need, such as a brake or exhaust system replacement. Repair shops, including dealers, respond with quotes. From the offers, consumers choose a provider using parameters such as proximity, price, and reviews submitted by other Openbay users.
The repair shops featured ask to be listed on the website, and not all that do are accepted.
No collision repair
Openbay handles maintenance and repair work such as replacement of suspension components, repair of the heater core and oil changes. Most of these jobs would generally not be covered by an auto insurance policy.
Openbay does not cover collision repair. For this job, State Farm’s website already has a quote generator – under a âFind a Repair Shopâ button – that lists nearby collision repair shops based on zip codes.
As part of the State Farm-Openbay partnership, consumers who start the process through the Openbay website are entitled to a $ 20 discount on their first work booked and completed through the joint site, and an additional $ 20 on their second job.
The two companies described their marketing partnership as a âstrategic relationshipâ.
The benefits for Openbay of partnering with a national company within the reach of State Farm are clear. âState Farm has a large installed base of auto policyholders. The largest in the United States, âwrote Openbay CEO Rob Infantino in an email response to the questions. âThis represents an opportunity for a young company to reach a large community of vehicle owners via a family and trusted brand. “
For State Farm, spokeswoman Angie Harrier said, the obvious benefit of the partnership was appeal to millennials and other younger, more tech-savvy potential insurance clients.
âWe have over 92 million millennials, the largest generation in US history, accustomed to acquiring services online,â she wrote in an email. âThe Openbay offering is aligned with this group of consumers in addition to previous generations. “
Openbay is one of the many online auto repair marketplaces. Among them, for example, is YourMechanic.com, a Silicon Valley site that hosts auto repair home visits.
