Sunnybrae Auto Services Suspended From WOF Show

PRESS RELEASE
December 13, 2018
WOF ALERT – Sunnybrae Auto Services and Stephen Upson immediately suspended from WoF show
The NZ Transport Agency immediately suspended Auckland-based vehicle inspector Stephen Upson and his inspection organization Sunnybrae Auto Services.
In November of this year, it was found that Mr Upson had authorized two unauthorized persons to perform suitability-related inspections on his behalf. He also failed to correctly identify a vehicle’s brake, exhaust and steering problems. In addition, Sunnybrae had vehicle testing equipment that was overdue or out of order.
We are not aware of any specific concerns regarding individual vehicles, however, due to the poor quality of Mr. Upson’s inspections, it is possible that some vehicles were incorrectly exceeded. For this reason, we strongly encourage those with a valid Certificate of Fitness issued by Sunnybrae Auto Services to have their vehicle rechecked.
The New Zealand transport agency will contact all affected 747 vehicle owners individually as soon as possible to advise them on recheck options. Vouchers will be provided.
There will be no further comments on this alert.
Note for customers:
The NZ Transport Agency has records of all WoF inspections. If we have any concerns regarding your vehicle’s WoF inspection and certification, we will contact you directly by phone and letter, using the personal information on file with the vehicle owner.
If you have changed your address or phone number in the past year and have not updated it, please do so by calling the Transport Agency on 0800 108 809.
On our website we have more information about regulatory compliance review and guaranteed fitness information for clients.
