LA CROSSE, Wisconsin (WXOW) – Many businesses have struggled during the pandemic, but a local auto store has faced those challenges and then some. Crazy Dave’s Auto Repair now has a new home on the north side of La Crosse after being forced out of its old location.
âI’m not going to deny it. It was extremely difficult,â said Dave Willette. “Really tough. I almost closed the doors a few times, but I’m a survivor. I’ll keep pushing.”
Dave Willette is the owner of Crazy Dave’s Auto Repair, which he started on his own just over six years ago after discovering his love for vehicles. Dave said he also owed his job to his late father, who he said would stand proudly by his side if he was here today.
He and his wife Christina agree that there is no better name for the company because Dave has always been a little bit crazy.
âI’m not sure if there is another name that suits her the best,â Christina Willette said. is quite memorable.
But it’s a crazy one-man band that does it all and with a lot of dedication.
âHe will be there until the end of the hours if he needs to do anything,â Christina said. “He’ll get up early in the morning to go to work, so he can do something he promised a client.”
Dave said it was just about doing what he loves.
“You have to find your niche – what you love, and I found out that I love working on vehicles and that is my passion.”
While Crazy Dave enjoys the job, it hasn’t been a joyous ride in recent years due to the COVID pandemic on top of the stress of finding a new location for the store.
âThe state wanted me to move because they wanted to put a roundabout and I went through thick and thin trying to find a place,â Dave said. âI looked at several places. A few places almost closed the deal and it didn’t feel right or something was wrong, so I kept moving around to try and find a place I could call home. me.
Even with every bump in the road the Willette encountered, they overcame it, finding the right place on the north side in what was once TC Auto.
âThere was a reason we got this building,â Christina said. âThere was a reason this one became available. There’s a reason Mike decided ‘hey Dave deserves this. It’s time for me to retire.
Crazy Dave said he was finally able to take a soothing breath after a long road of struggling for the business he started on his own from scratch.
âI’m happy for now. You’re working on it. You keep pushing. Because you are going to make yourself stronger and better. “
