Dickinson County auto repair shop is offering free oil changes to veterans on Thursday
IRON MOUNTAIN, Mich. (WLUC) – Arcand’s service center at Iron Mountain will provide free oil changes to veterans on Thursday. Owner Alan Arcand is a veteran himself and says his duty to serve is not over.
“We all have a bond together. We still serve in a way. We have taken our oath to our country, to the Constitution against foreign and domestic enemies. It is not because we no longer wear the uniform that our oath is null and void. It’s still an active oath, ”said Alan Arcand, owner of the Arcand service center.
Arcand spent eight and a half years in the US Air Force as a crew chief on F-15s. He opened the service center in 2009 and partnered with NAPA in Kingsford to provide free oil changes.
“The owner of NAPA is also a veteran so we got together and they helped sponsor everything. We provide the labor and they provide the products to the veterans, ”Arcand said.
The retail value of the oil change is approximately $ 40. Arcand says anyone who gets an oil change quits driving a safe car.
“We’re not just dumping and filling. We perform a complete oil change. So, we bring it, we check everything. We check tire stems, belts, etc. ”Said Arcand.
Arcand recommends that you have your car serviced every three to five thousand miles, depending on the make and model. The service center registers an average of 30 veteran registrations each year. So far, more than 20 veterans have registered.
Arcand says some veterans are facing financial hardship and the oil change is one way to help.
“Sometimes they can’t afford to do minor maintenance on their vehicles,” Arcand said. “At least we can make an oil change.”
Arcand recommends that you call ahead to reserve an hour. You can call the store at 906-779-9774.
